In from the new MYA Race Officer – Darin Ballington
2017, who would have thought it, I’ve just got my head around 2016 and now we are rushing headlong in to 2017 and another great year of sailing planned in the MYA calendar.
2017 looks like being a classic year for Nationals and Ranking events with some great venues including but not only, Fleetwood, Castle Semple, Poole, Datchet and Coalhouse Fort, with a big event in each district there should be something for everyone.
The Yearbook will be released soon, but for those keen on the racing the on-line calendar (HERE) should wet your lips and hopefully have you filling in your sailing calendar.
The IOM’s will be back at Datchet Water in August for some more open water action, before this the 10R and M’s are having a week long joint event in July courtesy of the Fleetwood MY&PBC. This should be a great event with international skippers already confirmed and plenty of time to get your M and 10R out of the shed and “pimped”. In the middle of this the Radio A’s will be back at Manor Park in the Midlands for the usual weekend of camping, racing and socialising for their Nationals. Check out the A class website for more details in the next few weeks.
The other classes haven’t been forgotten and the Class Captains will be working hard within their class to encourage class skippers to attend their Nationals.
Keep your eyes peeled for more news…
Don’t forget that the IOM, M and 10R National entries will open on 1st Feb.
Get your Entries in….
The ranking season starts with the 10R’s in Feb, more news to follow on this next week, and the M Season starting at Radio Sailing Woking on the 26th of March (this will be a big season for the M’s as qualification starts for the 2018 Worlds in Germany). The 1st IOM ranking is only just behind with the ever popular trip across the border into Scotland. For those who haven’t been before the sailing is good but the hospitality and welcome are even better – one not to miss!! Put the 1st and 2nd of April 2017 in your calendar- Castle Semple the venue. Entry and Notice of Race to follow shortly.
Enough of the promotion, now something about the rules and regulations:
The 2017-20 changes to the Racing Rules of Sailing, have been published and there are some subtle differences that effect both the rules and the Appendix E amendments for Radio Sailing, these can be downloaded via the World Sailing website HERE, not quite Harry Potter or the Da Vinci Code but worth a read!
The MYA Race Team will be issuing revised SSI’s for 2017 to take into account updates and changes along with other revised documents ready for the 1st MYA Ranking events, again worth a read if you are a racer or hosting an event.
Finally, dont forget to keep checking the MYA, Class and District websites for news of events across the UK in 2017.
Thanks for reading this, good luck for 2017 and see you on a start line somewhere. 🙂
