We are very sad to announce that our Eastern District Councillor, David Perkins has died following a fall. The following statement has been sent from his family.
Captain David William Perkins
It is with great sadness that we announce that David Perkins passed away on the 14th January 2021 after a short illness in hospital.
Born in Jamaica on 26th April 1956 David joined Cunard as an Officer Cadet when he was 18 and, after achieving his Master Mariners qualifications, took his first command as Captain of the Cunard Caronia in 2001; serving within the Cunard, P&O and Princess Cruises fleets, the Queen Mary 2 and as the last appointed Captain of the QE2. David was well loved by both passengers and crew and retired in 2012 after 39 years of safe and commanding navigation.
A devoted family man, David married Louise (Lucy) in 1979 and was blessed with a son, Lawrence, in 1992. David and Lucy celebrated their 40th Wedding Anniversary on a warm, sunny day last May surrounded by family and friends. David took great care, love and joy in his family, enjoying holidays and family time together. His time with friends, family and colleagues and his hobbies of fly-fishing, walking Ash his dog, green bowling and model yacht sailing gave him great pleasure and contentment.
A man with many friends and family; he was loved by all and we are honoured to have shared his life.
