Cyril Horobin RIP.

Cyril Horobin RIP.

I have sad news to pass on from a message I have received from the Manor Park club.

Our great friend Cyril Horobin aged we think (94) passed away peacefully on 18th December 2019 in St Giles Hospice, and his wife Gloria wanted us to pass on the details to all his sailing friends.

Recently Cyril was a member of both the Rugeley MBC, and Manor Park RSC where he was a founding member during its inception in 2006, where recently he could be found sailing his DF95 with the weekday sailors.

My early recollection of Cyril was meeting him at Kingsbury Water Park MBC where we established a fleet of R36r yachts, and he became a regular competitor travelling around the Midland district.

During the 80’s he was also a regular visitor to Leicestershire RYC where he competed with his RM.

When the IOM class started to become popular Cyril was an early adopter sailing in one of the first District IOM series, and he continued to support IOM district sailing until he found the travelling a little difficult. He then put his efforts into supporting the local club, helping with race management duties.

In 2011 Cyril was one of only 7 members to receive a diploma of completing 50 years in the MYA.

Gloria Horobin has today (21st December) confirmed that Cyril’s cremation service will be held at 1.00pm on Thursday 9th January 2020 at Stafford Crematorium, Tixall Road, Stafford, ST18 0XZ.
