Eric Austwick is a founder member of Balne Moor in its present guise. A new trophy, “The Eric Austwick Cup” has been named in his honour. The IOM event will be competed for annually, and is an Open Meeting.
Eric Austwick has been a member of Balne Moor Club for “hundreds of years” when it was called Featherstone Model Boat Club, sailing at Purston Jaglin Park. He was the prime instigator of the move to Balne Moor and responsible for building the pond and much of its upkeep. He has for many years been the club Chairman. Recently when we branched out into Yachting at Askern he was one of the first to join in and learn the dark art.
Eric and his wife Shirley have decided to sell up and move to Blackpool to enjoy their retirement and will be sadly missed at the club, but we wish them all the best for the future. I am sure Eric will be over to do a bit of sailing occasionally.
It is fitting therefore that this new trophy is to be sailed for in his honour.
