South West MYA AGM – 28/10/2018 Report

Apologies.
Received for non attendance from Gavin Watson, Sarah Bush, Dave Morris and Richard Wills.

Minutes.
The previous years AGM minutes were approved with no matters arising

The Secretaries Report.
This outlined the status of the previous Winter and Summer Series with the various changes brought about by weather conditions. Sedgemoor club was thanked for stepping in to run both a winter and summer replacement event.
The numbers attending events has remained lower than desired and suggestions on how to entice more club members to enter the events were sought. As this topic was lending itself to a protracted period it was decided to ask members to email all suggestions to the Secretary who will then put it out to the clubs for consideration. Please email to mya.sw.secretary@icloud.com

A list of events/dates for the new Summer and Winter Series was distributed.

An update on Yeovil club was given as it was low in membership in the previous year. Since then it has attracted some more members and together with £129.60 from the MYA fund for promoting model yachting. It will now be running a winter & summer SW IOM event in the next 12 months as well as a PRACC event.
Swansea club unfortunately has not sailed at all this year and having been mothballed will no longer be affiliated to the MYA at renewal.

Election of Officers.
Paul Barton having stepped in to fill the vacancy this year had previously stated that he did not wish to go for re-election. No new candidates volunteered to continue with his good work and so a vacancy now exists.
The Secretary post also had no new candidates and so I was re-elected for another year.

Propositions.
1. To run a district RG65/DF65 championship event, possibly at Dartmoor for the first year.
This proposition had no backing and was voted against
2. To discuss if minimum entries should be required for SW IOM meetings.
This proposal had no backing and was voted against. The feeling was it was down to club race officers to decide to cancel for low entry.
3. To discuss if SW IOM championship should be moved from a series to a single event.
This proposal had no backing and was voted against.
4. To allow an event Discard after 3 events sailed in the Winter Series. (At present it is after 4 events).
This motion was carried.
AOB. None
