Congratulations to Tony Edwards on convincingly winning this fifth round at Sedgemoor.
Thanks goes to Nigel Clarke for the photos and report. Thanks also to Scott Smart of Sedgemoor for taking on and running this rearranged event.
A total of nine South West skippers arrived at Sedgemoor MBC from six different clubs, to be overcast skies, although the weather remained dry all day.
Race Officer Scott Smart got racing underway promptly at 10am and a good southerly A rig breeze which held for the rest of the day.
Tony Edwards gave everyone a demonstration run of 5 wins in the first 5 races until luck intervened and a small twig blown from the surrounding trees attached to his keel and dragged him back to 6th in race 6, allowing Andy Harding to score his only win of the day before Tony continued his run of firsts up to the lunch break.
After lunch Richard Aucott was able to put up some challenge to Tony by winning 4 races in the afternoon session and becoming the only other skipper to win more than one race at the event.
A total of 20 races were completed allowing everyone 18 races before a result was declared at 3pm, once discards had been taken into account Tony’s only failing was to have to include a solitary 2nd place in his run of 1st making him a worthy winner, with the only other multiple race winner Richard in 2nd and Bob Connor in 3rd despite finishing in every place from 1st to 7th at some point.
