European Masters - Report and Results

The venue at Lery Poses in France was ideal, with beautiful surroundings and warm weather. However, there was almost no wind and quite a bit of weed floating to the surface, so not ideal for rc sailing.

Registration and measuring went without any issues for the eight GB skippers. On the first day only two races were sailed after the seeding races and these took place in very light and changeable winds and some skippers needing to come to shore to remove weed.

The good news was that John Tushingham ended day one in 1st place with Phil Halliday in 4th and Mark Dicks in 7th, the other GB guys were all still in contention and hoping to avoid the weed over the next two days.

There were better conditions on the second day with beautiful weather and some wind. Weed was still a problem but with better wind it was easier to manage to avoid the worst. At the end of day two eleven races had been sailed so far and with two discards it was still anybody's event.

On the last day in this beautiful location, the 32 remaining skippers battled the weed and poor winds to have a very enjoyable event with Victor Izquierdo of Spain taking the overall honours. With 3 Brits in the top eight places, and the others not far behind, the UK sailors did very well overall.
