Report in from the team at Datchet:

Datchet Water welcomed the RG65 Travellers series to its open water venue, 6 skippers turned up to experience wind and waves at Datchet. John Shorrock and Hugh McAdoo set the course with a control area being from the end of the pontoon along the entire length of the slipway and part of the north car park with a windward leeward course and the start line set about a 1/3 up the course they also provided boat cover for rescue of boats as and when.

For some the waves proved a little tricky but once they got used to tacking over and surfing the waves on a run some very close and competitive racing was had by all. Datchet was very impressed with these boats and how well they sailed. Little mini me of the Marblehead world so no surprises on how well they sailed.

From the first race it was evident that local skipper Phil Holliday was going to make his mark and placed his gauntlet down taking the first of 6 races one after the other, David of Eastbourne and Nigel of Gosport were also making their mark on the race totals with some steady consistent sailing. after 9 races Phil holiday had a convincing lead on 7 points with Nigel Brown in second place on 16 points.

The Fleet adjourned for lunch after 9 races to have some of the local fare ate the DW café. after a break of an hour the fleet resumed the racing, however Nigel Brown had other ideas on Phil taking the honours with 1 & 2 being recorded throughout the remaining 7 races, at the close of the racing after 16 races the rain was settling in and it was agreed to finish the days excellent racing and adjourn to the café for a beer, tea or coffee while the final races were calculated.

Datchet thanked all skippers for taking part in this event and whilst numbers were low all enjoyed themselves with some very good, excellent racing and attitude on the water. Top prizes went to 1st & 2nd but all was given a Datchet Water Sailing Club mug for a keepsake.
