The event started with a fantastic day sailing at Mellieha Bay hotel. Winds were mainly from the North West giving some flat seas but with shifts coming and going throughout the day. A strong showing from the GBR boats with John Tushingham leading John Cleave by 1 point after 5 completed races
Lots of racing completed on a long day 2, wind was good but some huge shifts which were really difficult to cope with at times (for some). It was “A” rig all day for nearly the whole fleet. Early morning clouds having cleared to give us a fine and sunny day. After 13 races completed and therefore 2 discards, John Tushingham lead the way on 24 points, second was Kym Daub on 35 points and Ken Binks came in at third on 58 points.
Another day of north westerly winds, mainly force 3 with some gusts to 4 at times. All in “A” rig all day long with steady winds and occasional shifts which made for interesting racing. The leader board has changed slightly today, John Tushingham still with a comfortable lead and looked to be heading for his second IOM Malta Open win but changes close behind with Kym Daub in second, Derek Priestley in third place, Ken Binks and Alex Cory currently holding the trophy positions.
The final day started with shifty light breezes with the wind changing from westerly to north easterly and then southerly until late morning when a settled wind came in. The racing was top end of “A” rig, hard work for Chris on the dinghy having to set and re-set the course on a number of occasions.
Winner is Kym Daub GER 40 Congratulations Kym
