Sadly, we would like to inform fellow radio sailors that Tony Brailsford passed away earlier this week.
Tony came to Radio Sailing after a long career racing dinghies. He was an active member of Burghfield Sailing Club when a Model Yacht Section was formed there some 20 years ago and Tony soon graduated to One Metres. The building side appealed very much to his skill with tools, and his competitive nature took to the racing side.
At about this time the MYA were promoting the Triple Crown Design so Tony built a plug and mould for his first effort. He continued to build many more boats, each a variation on the previous one and gradually the design morphed into his AB designs. As Tony built more boats , the existing were sold on to other skippers at clubs around the Met and Southern area and beyond. The quality of the build was always exemplary and the boats were much sought after.
In a recent conversation, Tony estimated that he must have built over 100 IOMs.
A leading member of Reading Sailing Club Model Yacht Section, Tony will be sadly missed by his club mates. Our thoughts and condolences go out to his wife Sue and their family.
