This coming weekend at West Kirby will feature some of the fastest radio sailing on the planet with some of the worlds best skippers taking part in the MYA 10 Rater Class National Championships.
Long waterlines, clouds of sail and deep fins will combine to power these machines in what is shaping to be one of the most anticipated championships for the class in recent years. A quality field of skippers will be looking to take this years event from defending champion Peter Wiles sailing his Tension, with current class Australian and World Champion Graham Bantock heading up an impressive list sailing his dominant Diamond design.
(Click HERE to see video of 10 R’s in Open Water Aus style.)
Expected to take the fight to these are a number of skippers with a wide selection of designs both new and old headed by the likes of local Dave Potter (Dave Creed/Defector), Derek Priestley (new Dave Hollom/Creppello), Peter Stollery (Stollery/Pieces of Eight), Brad Gibson (BG/Trance), Martin Roberts (Creed/Bentley) and Graham Frazer (Bantock/Diamond).
Predicting a podium and placings among st this group with a number of new designs on their first outing is anyone’s guess but with predicted flat water and gusting conditions you can be sure that the racing will be a full on speed and skill test over 2 days.
If you are thinking of taking a look, racing will get underway both days at the West Kirby Sailing Club end of the Marine Lake from 10 am Saturday and 9.30am Sunday. You won’t want to miss this!
